We designed ProMBA with our students’ need for balance between work and school in mind. The flexible pacing and structure of our 16-month program fits within your current schedule as a full-time professional, while allowing you to gain career momentum with a top-ranked MBA.

We created the Professional MBA program for the fast track emerging leaders. Designed for working professionals who want to accelerate their business knowledge quickly to elevate their careers. ProMBA is ideal for students who plan to continue working full-time while achieving an MBA.

The center of ProMBA is a sense of community that comes from bringing together ambitious professionals and aspiring leaders. Applicants to our program should have at least five years of professional work experience, a strong academic record and a plan to move into positions with an increasing scope of responsibility. To maintain an intimate learning environment, our program is typically limited to 50-60 students per year.

As a designated 2021-2022 Military Friendly Gold School and Military Spouse Friendly School, our program also offers a broad range of resources to support students in the military and their families pursue their educational goals.

As a Professional MBA student, you have the unique opportunity to cultivate key business knowledge through our hands-on MBA while maintaining career momentum. Through a hybrid mix of on-campus and distance learning sessions, our program modality supports your ability to continue working full-time while earning your degree.

Our applied learning approach incorporates your workplace as a significant part of your learning process while pairing the accessibility of virtual learning with immersive residential periods and individualized leadership development. ProMBA participants complete their degree in just 16 months and graduate from the program prepared to make the transition from talented managers into exceptional leaders.


Throughout the course of our 16-month program, you will attend classes 2-3 Saturday’s a month on campus in Knoxville, Tennessee. Your in-person immersions serve as an opportunity to connect with your classmates, reach milestones on course projects and engage with our expert faculty members.

  • Saturdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. EST


Our program incorporates synchronous virtual, faculty led distance learning sessions to bring valuable course content to students in an accessible and interactive format. Over the course of the program, you will complete interactive distance learning sessions a couple Tuesday evenings a month.

  • Tuesdays from 7 p.m.-9:40 p.m. EST


For the duration of the Professional MBA and under the guidance of a faculty advisor, you will complete an Organizational Action Project (OAP) that addresses an issue of major importance in your organization. We designed this thesis-level project to offer you a strategic view of your organizations and allow you to apply concepts learned in class to the real world. The return on investment is significant for both you and your organization.


The Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a key component of professional growth and success. Our Leadership Development Program is a two-part program with a curriculum that will expose you to key business concepts intended to strengthen your managerial capabilities and lead your organization. In addition, the skills-based mentoring model provides you a designated leadership coach that will help guide your short-term and long-term professional goals, personal goals and stretch goals that will serve you well beyond the scope of the ProMBA program.


As a Professional MBA student, you will have the opportunity to travel with faculty and classmates to an international business hub for a week-long immersion that includes meetings with leaders of local and multinational organizations, governmental agencies and international accounting, finance and consultancy firms. Global immersions are optional, but offer a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of the global landscape.

The strength of our Professional MBA faculty is defined by their ability to translate abstract academic theories into an applied learning experience that allows you to relate and apply course concepts in your own professional experience.

The Professional MBA takes 16 months to complete.

Should pandemic conditions affect candidates’ ability to travel, alternative Residence Period sites will be selected that are compatible with ProMBA student travel needs and class profile.

In the case of governmental travel warnings or restrictions, we may utilize an online or hybrid modality for some aspects of the program; however, we will diligently pursue on-ground learning experiences where possible.

ProMBA applicants should have:

  • Active full-time employment
  • Significant professional achievement with increasing scope of responsibilities
  • 5 years of professional work experience or more
  • An academic record (combined with standardized test scores when required) that demonstrates the aptitude and commitment to complete an MBA while working
  • Business acumen to contribute actively to the learning process
  • Professional positioning that allows the student to apply learning quickly at their organization
  • Strong recommendations and robust employer support

Yes. The 2022 payment schedule is:

  • Advance Program Fee: $500
  • Fall Semester 2022: $16,000
  • Spring Semester 2023: $16,500
  • Fall Semester 2023: $16,500

Tuition may also be paid in a lump sum at the start of the first semester. Contact us about accommodations for company billing requirements or yearly educational tuition reimbursement caps.

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is a designated 2021-2022 Military Friendly Gold School and 2021-2022 Military Spouse Friendly School due to the expansive support available for the military community and their families at UT. Talk to an enrollment advisor for more information.

The ProMBA has one start date a year, in early-August.

To complete your application at, you will need the following:

  • GMAT/GRE scores may be required. Waivers are available for qualified candidates with at least five years of managerial experience
  • References
  • Application essay
  • Transcripts
  • $60 non-refundable application fee

The program fee for the Professional MBA is $49,500. The program fee includes:

  • All university tuition and fees
  • Case studies, periodicals for required reading
  • Technical support for all software
  • Campus parking permit

The program fee does not include:

  • Books, professional subscriptions and supplies
  • Laptop computer (if needed, you can purchase a laptop at a discount through the UT Computer Store)
  • Lodging
  • Optional global immersion trip (approx. $1,500 plus airfare)

Yes. Many applicants’ employers provide full or partial financial assistance, as the ProMBA assignments relate directly to work and improve employee performance and retention.


The Professional MBA admissions team reviews applications on a rolling basis. Cohorts are limited, so the earlier you complete your application, the sooner you can get an admissions decision to reserve your seat.
